#TBT: The Micro Bang Look

Last week when Queen Bey stepped out on the scene in Paris, all types of criticism hit the air waves and tabloids. Some made comments on her bang length and the cut. But among those who critcized and made jokes, it’s evident that they are unaware of the micro-bang trend. The style is one that’s cut above the eyebrows and is bluntly cut across the middle of the forehead or shorter.

Decades ago, the trend was worn during the 1950’s and 1960’s on celebs, models and singers including the late legendary Marvin Gaye’s duet singer, Tammie Terrell. Overall, the micro-bang is not a look for the boring and bland.  The trend is ideal for fashionistas who are part glam with a mix of rockin’ edge.

#TBT: Nothing Says ‘Supreme’ Style Like A Bob And Bang

During the 1920’s, the bob hairstyle was worn by the women who considered themselves as modern and stylish. Although longer hairstyles became more popular during the 1930’s causing the bob trend to fade, it wasn’t during the 1950’s that the hairstyle became popular again! Entertainers of all kinds, from the small screen to the big stage considered the bob as the funky style of choice to best adorn their heads. Acts such as Diana Ross and The Supremes, crooned and rocked their hits wearing the style, thus driving the popularity even more during that time. Throughout the years, the bob and bang combination has come and gone, and truthfully always will, as classic trends often do. Most recently, the hairstyle was spotted on Zendaya Coleman who decided to take a major cut to her tresses. I’m happy to witness the continuous revival of an neverending fabulous hairstyle.

#TBT: Alicia Keys’ Braids Then..And Again In 2014

My love for Alicia Keys is just as great now, as it was years ago when she first launched her singing career. As an entrepreneur who makes it my mission to empower others, I have also found myself inspired by several of her songs and philanthropic endeavours. Throughout her years as an iconic singer/songwriter of our generation, she’s given birth to tunes that will continue to uplift, make us fall in love and or to chase dreams of our own. Now, as one of the many celebs who is expecting a new bundle of joy, I can’t help but fall in love again with a throwback hairstyle of hers that she’s bringing back to the forefront – her box braid hairstyle!

#TBT: Vintage Hairstyles of Donna Summer

One word comes to mind when it comes to what we want when we either hear a Donna Summer tune or think of her gorgeous hairstyles we want to implement – volume! When it comes to iconic style and music of the 70’s, Donna Summer is the star that shined brightly during that time. Her sound was one that was all her own, and she was a creative force to be reckoned with during the disco era. Whether she was wearing a flower in her hair or a cascade of waves, or or other thick tousled styles, her hairstyles were show stoppers. A present day show stopper, Solange Knowles has style, funk, great music and creativity that we crave. While searching through the LumiBloom vault of hairstyles, we came across a few similar styles spotted on both the late icon Donna Summer and Solange Knowles. Donna_Summer_Solange1   Donna_Summer_Solange_2

#TBT: Vintage Top Knot Styles on Icons

Just about every great hairstyle worn has an equally great origin. Take for instance today’s #Throwback Thursday hairstyle, the top knot. The allutring hairstyle is one of prestige and has historical origins within various cultures across New Zealand, Asia, Korea, China and Japan. In Korea, ancient men who were married wore the style to represent their nobility, while Samurais of Japan wore the high hairstyle to hold their helmets in place.

Whether a woman is going for a lazy hair day look, or an elegant top knot ponytail for a special evening, the hairstyle is one that compliments just about any face shape and occassion. Throughout time, icons such as, Ella Fitzgerald and Josephine Baker, have crowned themselves with the updo. Fast forward to present day, the look still reigns among popular styles worn by celebrities such as, Queen Latifah and Gabrielle Union.
